Blog Fodder: English Paper Pieced Quilts & a Giveaway

Welcome to this week's Linky Party!

The theme this week is English Paper Pieced (EPP) Quilts.  The
QuiltBug Glossary of Quilting Terms and Definitions describes English paper piecing as ‘found in 18th and 19th century English quilts, this method of hand piecing uses paper templates inside the block elements to guide where the edges are turned under.  These papers are later removed”.  Examples of EPP include hexagon shapes in Grandmother’s Flower Garden, and any number of charm or one-patch quilts such as Tumbler, Baby Blocks and Postage stamp quilts. After the required number of units is sewn around the paper templates, they are whip-stitched together to form a block. Once all the edges of a unit are sewn to their ‘neighbors’, the paper template for that unit may be removed. Most instructions advise, however, that the paper templates be left in place until the entire top of the quilt is assembled.
